TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATION
LP1 opens with the peerless house classic 'Good Life' by Inner City, followed by Kym Mazelle and Robert Howard's iconic 'Wait' and 'People Hold On' from Coldcut featuring Lisa Stansfield on her chart debut. M/A/R/R/S hit #1 with a 'Pump Up The Volume' a milestone in both UK house and also for the evolution of sampling. Bomb The Bass brings the huge sound of 'Beat Dis', and S'Express hit the top of the charts and made a timeless dance-floor-filler with 'Theme from S-Express'. Rob 'n' Raz featuring Leila K. and Technotronic close Side A with their respective dance-party classics.
Side B opens with two disco classics remixed for the late '80s dancefloor - CHIC's 'Jack Le Freak' and Chaka Khan with a remix of 'I'm Every Woman'. Pure pop turns into dancefloor magic with a these PWL mixes, as Jakie Quartz's 'A La Vie A L'Amour', followed by the remix of 'Everlasting Love' by Sandra, and Bananrama's 'I Want You Back' filled dance-floors across Europe. Samantha Fox had a big dance track with 'Love House', and the final track on LP1 is 'Waltz Darling' by Malcolm McLaren & The Bootzilla Orchestra, celebrating the New York ball culture and it's vogueing scene.
LP2 kicks off with the hugely influential 'Back To Life' from UK pioneers Soul II Soul featuring Caron Wheeler, followed by Ten City's soulful smash 'That's The Way Love Is', and Bobby Brown with his massive dance-floor hit 'Every Little Step'. The rest of Side A features different hip-hop styles - Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam with Full Force with their freestyle hit 'I Wonder If I Take You Home', a hugely successful fusion of beats, rap and melody from Neneh Cherry with 'Buffalo Stance', Salt-N-Pepa's global smash 'Push It' comes next, ahead of UK hip-hop and house fusion from The Beatmasters featuring The Cookie Crew' with 'Rok Da House' and Wee Papa Girl Rappers' collision of rap and dancehall with 'Wee Rule' that closes the side.
The final side begins with the ultimate feel-good dance-floor filler, the #1 'The Only Way Is Up' by Yazz & The Plastic Population, followed by Krush's anthem 'House Arrest'. Up next, two older tracks that get the late '80s remix treatment: DJ Ben Liebrand remixed 'The Eve Of The War' by Jeff Wayne featuring Richard Burton to renewed chart success and the biggest selling 12” single of all time 'Blue Monday' from New Order was remixed by Quincey Jones as 'Blue Monday '88' and was a massive dance track once again! The final three tracks on the collection fittingly come at the end of the decade and lead into the '90s as dance music continued to invent… The Stone Roses' 'Fools Gold' features the psychedelic funk that would be a key ingredient in the burgeoning 'baggy' scene, and as house music evolved into multiple strands including acid house and ambient house, the closing essentials from 808 State and The Beloved would both become influential tracks that were also inspired and influenced by Ibiza's Balearic house, and are a perfect conclusion to this collection of 80s dance-floor classics!
